What to do when Tithing and Giving are not working for you

Have you ever wondered why tithing and giving work for other people but they never work for you?

When talking about tithing and giving this verse is one that you hear often:

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Luke 6:38

I remember years back seeing this bible verse work for so many people but for some reason it never worked for me.

I was faithful so many times with my tithes and offerings yet nothing ever happened so, I got discouraged and stop tithing all together.

That was until God helped me see what I was doing wrong.

If The Word of God is not working for you, the problem is never on God’s part. The problem will always be on your part.

So, you need to examine yourself and see what you are doing that is keeping the promises of God from being fulfilled in your life.

Reasons why tithing and giving are not working for you

The wrong reasons

Have you ever thought of the reasons behind your giving? Are you doing it because you know that if you give you will receive?

Are you giving because that is what you are used to doing or because you want people to know that you give?

There are only 2 reasons for us to give, the first one is love and the other is obedience.

God has commanded us to give the 10% of our first fruits, so we do this #1 because we love Him and #2 because we want to be obedient to His word.

When we give to our church, when we donate money to charity, when we give to people that need our help we should be doing all this out of love only.

Giving with the wrong heart

In 1 Corinthians 13, we can see that as Christians we can do many wonderful things and still do them with the wrong heart.

Personally, I have given before because I have felt obligated to do so, not because I wanted to.

This is the wrong way to give, we don’t give to get or because we are obligated to do so. We give out of love and out of obedience.

Lack of Faith

The kingdom of God is based on seed time and harvest and even though we do not give to get, every time we give we plant a seed. This seed will eventually grow up and give much fruit. This is a spiritual law.

Just like we expect to eat apples in the future from the apple seeds we planted, we should also expect to see a harvest from all the seeds we have planted with our giving.

When we expect to receive from God we are using our faith. We should expect to see God’s promises fulfilled in our lives. Because without faith it is impossible to please God. A lack of expectancy is a lack of faith.

Pulling your seeds out

One day a little boy was very happy because they planted beans at his school.

He was so excited to see his plant growing that each morning he would take the seed out of the dirt to see how much it has grown.

After several days everybody’s plant grew except for his. He didn’t have the patience to leave the seed in the ground and let nature run its course.

This is what happen to many of us. We sow the seed and we want to see the harvest right away, we don’t want to wait on God’s timing.

Sometimes we pull the seeds out, with the words of our mouth and the lack of faith. Every time you say “this doesn’t work for me” you are pulling your seeds out.

Remember, it’s SEED-TIME & HARVEST, you need to have a seed, you need to give it time in order to have your harvest. Don’t pull your seeds out!

Wrong Confession

The Word of God is simple when it says in Mark 11:23: You will have whatever you say or confess.

If you confess that tithing and giving does not work for you then that is what you will get.

If you confess that you are always broke, then that is what you will get.

Choose to always speak life over yourself and over the seeds you plant and over your finances.

Instead of saying how broke you are, use your faith and your words to create your future. Here are a few examples:

Lord, I thank you that you have blessed the work of my hands.

Everything I put my hands to prospers.

The blessing of the Lord makes me truly rich and it adds no sorrow with it.

There is never any lack in my home because The Lord provides for all my needs according to His riches in glory.

I sow in good ground and my seeds bear much fruit.

Find out why tithing and giving are not working for you and how to fix the problem

What to do to get your tithing and giving working for you

Know who you are and who God is

Knowing who God is can help you to truly trust God with your finances.

He is not only the creator of all things, He owns everything, He is the king of kings and you, yes you are His baby!

Your Daddy God wants the best for you, He wants to provide for you and He will always take care of you. You never have to worry because He knows what you have need of. He will always make a way.

Walk in love

God is love and if we don’t have love we don’t have God. But since we are children of God, the love of God has been shed in our hearts by the Holy Spirit.

Do not let your lack of love be a hindrance to your financial blessing. The love of God is in you, you can choose to walk in love all the time.

If you want to know more about walking in love, Kenneth Hagin has a little booklet called “How to walk in love” and you can get it here. I have found this book to be extremely helpful.

Unforgiveness

This one goes hand in hand with walking in love. You can’t walk in love if there is unforgiveness in your heart and you can’t forgive if you don’t choose to love instead.

Check your heart

Give your tithes because you love God so much that you just want to be obedient to His word.

Give because you want to be a blessing to others. Give because it is more blessed to give than to receive. Give because it is a great way to show people the love of God. Always do it with the right heart and for the right reasons.

Robert Morris has a wonderful book that will help you in this area, it’s called “The blessed life: unlocking the rewards of generous living”
