Godswill Akpabio reportedly resigns as Senate minority leader

Senator Godswill Akpabio has reportedly resigned from his position as minority leader of the Senate. The lawmaker who has speculated to be leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) soon reportedly resigned in a letter dated August 4 and addressed to the Senate deputy minority leader, Emmanuel Bwacha and the PDP lawmakers, The Tribune reports. Akpabio however was said to have declined to state any reason for his purported resignation. The lawmaker was reported to have thanked the senate minority leadership and the PDP for giving him the opportunity to lead the caucus for three years. The APC in a Facebook post on Tuesday, August 7, said Akpabio will be formally joining its fold in a rally scheduled to take place at a rally in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom state on Wednesday, August 8.
