A 56-year-old woman committed suicide on Monday morning after her son raped her in the presence of a younger son.

The Police identified the woman as Namaseki Ojawo of Awoimuju village in Nadunget sub-county, Moroto district.

Earlier on, Lokeris Apauloitakou had locked himself in his hut as relatives ordered him out to dig his mothers̢۪ grave as their cleansing rituals demand, but he fled from the hut naked and climbed a nearby tall tree.

The Police were called in to rescue Apauloitakou from villagers who had gathered around the tree with sticks, clubs and spears to lynch him.

The officers fired teargas to disperse the crowd and persuaded the suspect to climb down before arresting him.

He is now detained at Moroto Police Station.

The younger brother, who was in the hut during the rape, told relatives that Apauloitakou found his mother sleeping in her hut at around midnight and demanded sex. When she refused, he forced her and then fled and locked himself in his hut.

The Moroto head of criminal investigations, Grace Pande, described the incident as wicked.
