The US president has announced he instructed American trade officials to consider one-hundred billion dollars in additional tariffs on China, once again heightening tensions with Beijing.
Donald Trump said the new tariffs were being considered "in light of China's unfair retaliation" against earlier US trade actions that included 50 billion dollars in tariffs on Chinese goods. The US president’s comment came after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Washington is mistaken by choosing Beijing as its trade sanction target. The top diplomat condemned the move by the US administration to slap tariffs on a list of Chinese goods. China has also requested "consultations" with Washington concerning the proposed tariffs. Beijing warned that an economic war with the United States was pending.
