Ten people have been killed during an hours-long attack on a police camp in Indian-controlled Kashmir.
Officials say eight policemen and two suspected pro-independence fighters were killed when gunmen stormed a heavily guarded police camp in Pulwama district, south of the state capital of Srinagar. At least three attackers detonated grenades and fired automatic assault rifles to get into the camp. Dozens of police families were evacuated from the area to prevent confrontation with local anti-India protesters. The disputed Kashmir region has witnessed deadly clashes between Indian forces and pro-independence groups over the past decades. The violence has left scores of people dead so far this year.
