US House approves new sanctions against Iran

The US House of Representatives has overwhelmingly voted to slap new sanctions on Iran over its missile program.

The House passed a bill that imposes mandatory penalties on people involved in Iran's ballistic missile program, and anyone who does business with them. The measure also puts sanctions on Iran’s Revolution Guards Corps and enforces an arms embargo. Democrats say the new sanctions don’t conflict with the Iranian nuclear deal to which the US is a signatory.

But, Iran sees the new sanctions as well as those previously imposed as a violation of the deal, saying it will act accordingly. The bill passed by the US House also slaps sanctions on North Korea over its missile program and sanctions Russia over its alleged role in the 2016 presidential election in the US.
