President Farmajo orders release of 91 prisoners to mark Independence in Somalia

As part of activities marking Somalia’s Independence Day celebration on Saturday, Somalia's President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed 'Farmajo' ordered the release of 91 prisoners. In May this year, President Farmajo set up a 9-member commission to look into the state of prisons. They recommended for the president to pardon a number of prisoners held for misdemeanor. The released persons are those held for petty crimes. Most of those pardoned were serving prison terms for debts and mobile phone thefts. Released Prisoners thanked the president for the pardon and promised that they would take advantage of this opportunity to rebuild their future.
