Mynamar: No visas for UN investigating team

Myanmar is resisting UN demands for an investigation into atrocities against Rohingya Muslims in the Southeast Asian country.

Myanmar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it will not issue visas for members of a UN delegation investigating the abuse of Rohingya. The fact-finding mission is tasked with looking into violations of Rohingya’s rights by government forces in Myanmar’s Rakhine state. The mission was set up by the UN Human Rights Council after it adopted a corresponding resolution in March. Myanmar has a history of discrimination and systematic crackdown against Muslims. Many Rohingya have been killed in recent years by both extremist Buddhists and security forces while many more have been forced to flee Myanmar.
