Israel has intensified tensions in Jerusalem al-Quds as settlers storm the al-Aqsa Mosque compound under protection of soldiers.
As the settlers were inside the holy site, Palestinian worshippers gathered outside the al-Aqsa Mosque behind the gates. Israeli forces confronted the Palestinians and tried to disperse them. On Sunday, clashes erupted between Israeli forces and Palestinians as thousands of Palestinian worshippers gathered around the compound for evening prayers.
Israel’s new limitations and unnecessary measures, including the installations of new cameras and metal detectors at the entrance of the mosque, have sparked angry protests since last week. Palestinians say Israel is trying to expand its control over the holy site and change the historic status of the mosque.
