492 people have been shot dead by US police in the first six months of 2017.
According to a Washington Post report, the figure is almost identical to the count for the same period in each of the past two years. black males account for nearly a quarter of the deaths. The research finds that every fourth person killed was said to be battling with some sort of mental illness.The findings suggest that officer-involved shootings have been constant over time despite geographical variance. Half-year estimates imply that the number of police killings by the end of the year will near four digits. Fatal shootings and brutal violence by law enforcement officers in the U-S have triggered nationwide protests and calls for reform.
