In Washington, activists in support of an affordable healthcare plan, known as Obamacare, have marched on the U-S Capitol, voicing their opposition to a bill to repeal the 2010 law.
The protest came as the healthcare legislation sought by President Donald Trump faces a Congressional battle, with critics within the Republican Party urging substantial changes. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has abandoned plans to seek passage of the bill this week due to the lack of the 50 needed votes. Republican leaders are now working out changes ahead of next week's Independence Day recess. Scrapping Obamacare has been a seven-year Republican quest and was among Trump’s top campaign promises. Some 20 million Americans gained health care coverage under the 2010 act. But Republicans regard it as an overreach of the federal government arguing that it increased health care costs.
