UN war crimes investigators have denounced a QUOTE-“staggering loss of civilian life” caused by the U-S-backed campaign to seize Raqqah. The investigators said the intensification of airstrikes by the so-called U-S-led coalition against Daesh had led to the deaths of at least 300 civilians in the city. The Raqqah operation began earlier in June with a ground assault by the Syrian Democratic Forces.
