The Syrian army has announced a 48-hour ceasefire in the city of Dara’a in support of national reconciliation.
Military
officials have released a statement saying all combat operations have
stopped as of Saturday 9 GMT for 48 hours. The announcement comes as the
southwestern city has witnessed some of its worst fighting between
foreign-backed militants and the government forces in the recent months.
Meanwhile, United Nations special mediator for Syria, Staffan de
Mistura says a fresh round of Syria peace talks has been set for next
month. There have been multiple rounds of UN-brokered talks on Syria
over the past year. But the negotiations either collapsed or ended with
no tangible breakthrough.
