Spain govt. urged to fulfill pledges on refugees

Thousands of demonstrators have taken to the streets of the Spanish capital, Madrid, in support of asylum seekers.

The protesters urged the government to fulfill its pledge to give shelter to refugees from war-torn countries like Syria. They were holding a huge banner welcoming the asylum seekers. Spain has taken in fewer than 10 percent of the refugees it promised to accept. It has relocated or resettled only around 1300 of the more than 17000 people from camps in Italy, Greece, Turkey and Libya, that it promised to take in.
