Iran’s Foreign Ministry has expressed deep regret over the killing of an Iranian fisherman by Saudi coastguards in the Islamic Republic’s southern waters.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi said the bitter incident would be dealt with appropriately and seriously after conducting preliminary investigations. Deputy interior minister for border affairs Majid Aghababaei also said the fisherman lost his life after being hit by a bullet in the back. He said the incident happened after two fishing boats lost their way amid high tides in Bushehr waters. The ministry official said an investigation was underway to know exactly where the attack happened. He, however, criticized the inhumane move, saying Saudi guards had no permission to open fire on the boats even if they had entered their territorial waters.
