"Russia to react to US pre-emptive intervention in Syria"

The Russian foreign minister says his country will react proportionately to any US pre-emptive intervention in Syria.
Sergey Lavrov says he hopes the US would not use secret intelligence about Syria planning a chemical attack as an excuse for provocation. Speaking at a joint press conference with his German counterpart, Lavrov said chemical attack allegations against Damascus have been blown out of proportion. The Russian diplomat noted that even US experts have indicated that extremists might use chemical attacks as a provocation and point the finger at the Syrian army. Sigmar Gabriel said however that the possibility of chemical weapons' use by the Syrian government should be investigated. He also called for action to prevent the future use of such weapons.
