Abia State ; Planning Herdsmen Attack
People of Ndi Uduma Awoke
community in Ohafia local government of Abia State are on edge over
alleged plan by Fulani herdsmen to launch reprisal attack on the
community. To forestall the impending attack the traditional ruler of
the community, His Royal Majesty Ezeogo Kalu Uduma Nchonwa yesterday led
other community leaders to the state police headquarters Umuahia where
they appealed to the state police commissioner to intervene and protect
the community from herdsmen. The police in a statement signed by the
police public relations officer, DSP Geoffrey Ogbonna confirmed the
fears of the Ndi Uduma Awoke people, saying that combined efforts of the
police and the military had doused the tension. According to the
police, there was a dispute between farmers and herdsmen in Ohafia local
government and “since the incident, Police covert operations, and
extensive patrol have been deployed to ensure no further breach of peace
in the community and its environs.”
