Putin: Don't intimidate North Korea after latest missile test

Russian President Vladimir Putin says Moscow is opposed to any new country acquiring nuclear weapons. He however says the world should talk to North Korea rather than threaten it.

The Russian leader said dialog with North Korea is possible. Putin blamed international challenges including tensions in East Asia on the violation of international law and aggression against sovereign states. He warned that such measures would lead to arms races. The Russian president also called for strengthening international guarantees under the UN Charter. Russia was a strong opponent of the US invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq in 2001 and 2003 which brought about regime change in the two countries.
