Meeting between Trump and Lavrov raises alarms in US
A recent closed-door meeting between the US president and Russian diplomats in the Oval Office has raised alarms in the US.American
officials and media have questioned why Trump agreed to host the
non-heads-of-state officials in the office. They have also criticized
the timing of the meeting, which comes at a period of growing tensions
between Washington and Moscow. A number of former US intelligence
officials have also criticized the presence of a Russian photographer
inside the oval office during the meeting as a possible cyber-security
risk. On Wednesday, Trump held a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister
Sergei Lavrov and Russian ambassador in Washington, Sergei Kislyak. The
meeting comes as the US president is under investigation over
allegations that his campaign had ties with Russia in the 2016 election.
Moscow has repeatedly denied the allegations.
