Iraqi army opens new front in Mosul's norhteast

Iraqi forces have opened a new front in their battle with Daesh terrorists to retake the northern city of Mosul.

Military commanders say they are now attacking Daesh enclaves in the northwestern side of the city. The army’s Ninth Armored Division and Rapid Response Forces are also advancing in that direction. The new offensive would clear the way for the Counter-terrorism troops and Federal Police who are on the city’s southern belt to advance. Daesh militants are reportedly trapped in the northwestern corner of Mosul that includes the old city and the famous Grand Nuri Mosque. On Tuesday, Federal police officials said Daesh terrorists are using local people in the old city as human shield as they lose ground in the battle.
