The German foreign minister has accused US president Donald Trump of weakening the West

The German foreign minister has accused US president Donald Trump of weakening the West with his short-sighted policies. Gabriel also criticized the US government for standing against the interests of the European Union. The volley of criticism came days after Trump signed a 110-billion dollar arms deal with Saudi Arabia while refusing to sign up to upholding the 2015 Paris climate accord. The top German diplomat said that the Europeans must fight for more climate protection, fewer weapons and against religious fanaticism. He warned that a lack of concerted efforts would further destabilize the Middle East and Africa. Earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel also declared that Europe could no longer completely rely on traditional allies such as the US and Britain to deal with global issues.
