AP investigation reveals student-on-student sex assault in US

An investigation conducted by the Associated Press has revealed grim figures about sexual assaults at US elementary and secondary schools.

The study tracked down student-on-student assaults reported to law enforcement agencies from 2013 to 2014. It found more than 2800 cases that involved at least 3300 victims nationwide. In over 12-percent of the incidents, more than one offender were involved. The majority of the offenders were male students. The probe also found that boys make up 40-percent of victims at the age of five or six while girls as young as 11 account for more than 85-percent of total assault cases. The Associated Press says more than 800 police agencies in 28 states reported at least one case of sexual assault during the two-year period.
