Venezuela’s Supreme Court has reversed its ruling to remove the legislative powers of the opposition-controlled congress.
The court’s decision to strip the National Assembly from its powers had drawn local and international condemnation. The move, described as a coup d’etat, had also brought angry protesters to the streets of the capital Caracas. Opponents accuse the court of undermining democracy in the country in order to consolidate President Maduro’s powers. The judges of the Supreme Court have backed the government of president Maduro in its disagreements with the congress.
