People across Turkey will head to polling stations in a few hours in a crucial referendum on constitutional changes.
Some 55 million are eligible to cast their ballots at 167000 polling stations. Polls will open at 4:00 GMT and close at 14:00. Turkish voters abroad have already cast their ballots. People will decide on whether to replace the country’s parliamentary system with an executive presidency. The package of 18 amendments would abolish the office of prime minister and give the president authority to draft the budget, declare a state of emergency and issue decrees overseeing ministries without parliamentary approval.
