Harsh spending cuts in the education sector in the UK have forced more than half of all schools to increase class sizes.
A new survey by the Association of Teachers and Lecturers has found that class sizes are surging in thousands of schools across the country as a result of under-funding. Figures show that over nine-hundred primary school classes had 36 or more students last year. The report has criticized the department of education for putting schools under pressure and the future of students at risk by reducing the funding per student. Last month, a group of head teachers wrote to their local lawmakers and ministers urging them to rethink school finance. The harsh budget cuts have also put students with special educational needs and disabilities at risk of being turned away from local schools.
