South Korea, the US and Japan have held a joint military drill off South Korea's southern coast amid rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
More than eight-hundred troops along with multiple naval destroyers and helicopters are involved in the three-day drill. Seoul’s Defense Ministry says the naval exercise is aimed at ensuring effective response to missile threats from North Korean submarines.
Tensions have soared in recent months following a series of ballistic missile launches by North Korea. Pyongyang says it will not quit its nuclear and ballistic missile program unless Washington quits its hostile policy toward the East Asian country and stops holding drills in the region.
