Pope Francis has slammed European countries for rejecting refugees, comparing the conditions in overcrowded refugee facilities to those of concentration camps in the Nazi Germany.
The pontiff made the comments during a visit to a Rome basilica, where he met refugees on Saturday. He encouraged Europe to welcome more refugees instead of making new plans to prevent their arrival. The head of the catholic church also criticized a refugee deal between Turkey and the EU, saying its implementation shows that international agreements are more important than human rights.
Pope Francis has frequently urged the international community to fight xenophobia and open doors to refugees.
