Germany probes Turkish official over "spying"

Germany has opened a probe into allegations of espionage by a top official in the Turkish religious agency Diyanet.
According to German media, prosecutors in Germany started investigating Halife Keskin last month. Berlin suspects Diyanet of asking its members in foreign countries to gather information on supporters of U-S-based opposition figure Fethullah Gulen. Turkish President Rejep Tayyip Erdogan blames Gulen for last year’s failed coup. A top German official said on Tuesday that Erdogan's government had asked Berlin to help spy on hundreds of Gulen’s followers in Germany. Relations between Turkey and Germany have soured since the attempted coup and the subsequent crackdown on alleged perpetrators by the Turkish government.
