EU’s Mogherini urges political solution to war

EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini has called for a political solution to end the conflict in Syria. Mogherini made the comments as she delivered the opening speech at an international conference in Brussels. The event is aimed at raising humanitarian funds for Syria. Mogherini described the war in Syria as the most complex one in years, which needs to be dealt with collectively. She stressed that peace in Syria can be achieved through cooperation between all local, regional and international players. Addressing the same event, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres urged Syria’s warring sides to put aside their differences and work together to end the conflict. He warned that the violence has had detrimental effects on the region and is feeding global terrorism.
