At least 14 people have been killed by an explosion inside a metro carriage in the Russian city of Saint Petersburg. Dozens of people were also injured in the blast that happened when the train was close to the Sennaya Plosh-chad metro station in the center of the city. Following the incident, city officials evacuated all stations and closed Saint Petersburg’s underground system. Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent his condolences to the families of the victims. Putin did not rule out an act of terrorism. He says Russian officials are trying to establish the cause of the blast. Russia has been the target bombing and shooting attacks by extremists in the past. At least 38 people were killed in 2010 when two female bombers detonated their explosive devices in a metro station in Moscow
