
The gain was made as Syrian and Russian planes pounded the area with pinpoint airstrikes. The Syrian army is now on the western bank of the Euphrates River, where Aleppo's water treatment facility is located. Aleppo's main water supply has been cut off for nearly two months, and the city's residents rely mainly on ground wells or water purchased from private vendors. On December 12, the Major Syrian city of Aleppo was recovered by government forces. Since then the army has launched several operations to liberate the regions in the vicinity of the city.
