The US Justice Department has filed an appeal notice against a ruling by a Maryland federal judge that partially blocked President Donald Trump’s new travel ban.
The department has not published any details about the notice, which is the step before a formal appeal lawsuit. The Maryland judge issued a verdict on Thursday that put a nationwide halt on Trump’s ban on travel from six Muslim-majority nations. The judge ruled that the ban represented discrimination based on religion and national origin. A Hawaii federal judge has also issued a temporary halt order on Trump’s travel ban. The two measures suspend both the 90-day ban on travelers from the six nations and the 120-day ban on all incoming refugees.
