The United States is reportedly considering a bigger role in the ongoing Saudi war on Yemen by boosting direct support to its Persian Gulf Arab allies.
According to US military officials, Pentagon chief James Mattis in a memo to the White House has advocated more support for operations by Saudi Arabia and its allies in Yemen. Washington is also reportedly examining offering its intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance assets to the United Arab Emirates. This comes a week after a report by Amnesty International condemned the US and Britain for supplying Saudi Arabia with arms to use them in its war on Yemen. Riyadh began aerial bombardment of Yemen back in 2015. The attacks have claimed the lives of more than 12000 Yemenis, most of them civilians and pushed the impoverished country to the brink of famine.
