Syria urges UN to condemn ‘blatant Israeli aggression’

The Syrian government has condemned Israeli airstrikes on the war-torn country as a flagrant violation of international regulations.

The Syrian foreign ministry made the remarks in two identical letters sent to the UN chief and the president of the UN Security Council. The ministry also warned that Israeli aggression against Syria not only threatened regional security, but also posed serious risks to global stability. It noted that the Syrian army responded to the aggression by shooting down one of the regime’s warplanes. Tel Aviv however denies losing any of its fighter jets. Meanwhile Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed the strikes targeted a weapons convoy destined for Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah. He threatened to do the same again if necessary. The Syrian foreign ministry has rejected such allegations.
