South Africa's president Jacob Zuma has announced a major cabinet reshuffle, sparking criticism from his allies and critics alike.
Finance Minister Pravin Gord-han was the first person in charge to be sacked after months of battle with the president over government spending plans. Apart from him, ten other ministers are going to be replaced. The new officials will be sworn in later on Friday in Pretoria. South Africa's ruling party, the African National Congress, says the president is pressing ahead with the reshuffle despite the party's disapproval. The A-N-C has accused Zuma of removing those who were reforming the government. South Africa's Banking Association and the country's Communist Party have also condemned the move, with the latter calling for a public protest.
