The eruption began Monday evening, as fountains of lava reportedly exceeded several hundred meters high. The eruption is coming from the south-eastern crater, causing small explosions and releasing volcanic bombs. But there has been no indication of a threat to the nearby settlements. Back in January, a flurry of activity prompted the evacuation of schools in nearby towns. Mount Etna is among the most active volcanoes in the world.
