Jeff Sessions asks 46 Obama-era US attorneys to resign

The US Justice Department says Attorney General Jeff Sessions has asked all 46 attorneys, appointed before Donald Trump became president, to step down.

The department said the attorneys are asked to leave to ensure a uniform transition to the new administration. Attorneys are not required to resign when a new administration takes office, though resigning is a routine. But not all new administrations change all chief prosecutors. Trump and his officials have shown a taste for replacing anything linked to the previous administration. Trump also sacked all U-S ambassadors in foreign countries and international bodies on the day he took office.
