China is outraged after a Japanese high-ranking official visits Taiwan. Beijing has warned about the consequences of the visit for Sino-Japanese relations.
Hua Chunying says her country has core interests in Taiwan that cannot be challenged. She urged Japan to understand the seriousness of the issue and stop being two-faced. Tokyo says Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Jiro Akama has paid a visit to Taiwan to attend a tourism promotion event. Akama’s the highest-level government official to travel to Taiwan since 19-72. Tokyo severed diplomatic relations with Taipei back then.
