Reports coming out of Syria suggest that Daesh terrorists have withdrawn from the old city of Palmyra overnight as the government forces reach the vicinity of the historic site.
According to a UK-based Syrian opposition group, Daesh terrorists have now moved to residential neighborhoods in the east of Palmyra while leaving a trail of landmines in the ancient ruins. That has reportedly slowed down the advance of the Syrian army that made their way into Palmyra from southern and southwestern directions on Wednesday. The army backed by Russian air cover recaptured the strategic Palmyra Triangle and several Daesh positions on the hilltops. They are now only three kilometers from the old city. Palmyra has changed hands between the Syrian government and Daesh since the terrorists first captured it back in 2015.
