Iraqi forces battling Daesh terrorists in Western Mosul are inching closer toward the city’s Grand Mosque.
The elite Rapid Response Force says they are only 600 meters from the Mosque, located in the city’s old district. A commander says they are fighting street battles as roads and alleyways are too narrow for vehicles to pass through. Over the past few days bad weather conditions and visibility have slowed down the Iraqi forces' advance. Baghdad is also concerned about the plight of civilians used by Daesh as human shields. Recapturing the Mosque would deal a major blow to the terrorists. The Noori Mosque, is where the so called leader of Daesh, Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, proclaimed the group's caliphate in 20-14.
