HRW urges UNHRC to take immediate measures for Bahrain situation

A prominent rights organization has expressed deep concern at the UN Human Rights Council’s failure to take any meaningful action to stop Bahrain’s crackdown on dissent.
Human Rights Watch says Manama has been encouraged by the silence of the international community to intensify its attacks on activists, protesters and opposition parties. The rights group has urged the UN council to take immediate measures to address what it describes as the worsening situation in the Persian Gulf kingdom. The organization also condemned the Al Khalifa regime for making little progress in holding officials accountable for the torture of activists in jail. Bahrain has harshly cracked down on the popular uprising which began in 2011.
