Hollande says duty-bound to prevent le Pen victory

In an interview with European newspapers, Hollande said France will be at risk if Le Pen succeeded him as president. He added that his ultimate duty is to make sure that France is not won over by a person with divisive programs. Election surveys and forecasts for the first round of French presidential elections, set to be held on April 23, show that Le Pen leads the poll with around 27 percent of vote intentions, with centrist candidate Emmanuel Macron coming second. The far-right leader, who is known for her anti-immigrant rhetoric, has promised that if she won the presidency she will hold a referendum on France’s exit from the European Union.
