France sends military hardware to Estonia

France has sent military hardware and vehicles to Estonia as part of a NATO military buildup in Eastern Europe.

The Estonian army says the military hardware includes Leclerc tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and armored vehicles. 50 French soldiers have also been stationed in Estonia, with another 250 troops due to arrive in April. The French forces will join the British soldiers already deployed in Estonia. The deployments follow an agreement by NATO member states in 2016 to send several multinational battalions to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland. Russia has described the deployment of NATO forces near its border as a threat. Moscow has repeatedly warned against what its calls NATO’s eastward expansion.
