Deportation fear makes women drop abuse cases in US

A new report suggests immigrant women in the US are dropping domestic abuse cases fearing deportation.
The report says some victims are too frightened to appear in court in case they are seen by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement. A lawyer dealing with immigrant cases has been quoted as saying that the fear stems from a video posted last month that shows immigration agents waiting to make an arrest outside a Denver courthouse. The new administration's talk of cracking down on undocumented immigrants has already frightened immigrant communities. President Donald Trump has promised to deport some two to three million people, mainly Mexicans, within two years.
