Democrats urge Sessions to resign over Russia ties

US House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi has called for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to resign following revelations that he was in contact with Russia during the 2016 presidential election.

Pelosi accused Sessions of lying under oath and demanded that he step down. Other Democrats followed the call for his resignation. According to a Washington Post report, the attorney general did not disclose when asked during his confirmation hearing about possible contacts between Donald Trump's electoral campaign and Russian officials. This has immediately fueled calls for him to excuse himself from an FBI's probe and the Justice Department’s investigation into the alleged Russian interference in the election. The Justice Department has already confirmed two separate interactions between Sessions and the Russian ambassador. Trump has been dogged by questions about his advisers' ties to Moscow since the campaign. Both Kremlin and the White House have denied the claims.
