The British House of Commons has approved a bill that allows the Prime Minister to begin the country’s process of leaving the European Union.
Lawmakers also voted down the amendments passed by the House of Lords by 335 to 187. The two amendments aimed to protect E-U citizen’s rights and hand parliament a meaningful vote on the final Brexit deal. The bill will once again be passed to the House of Lords, which is unlikely to challenge the decision. If approved, it will be sent to the Queen for symbolic approval. The Queens approval will allow Prime Minister Theresa May to start a two-year negotiation period as set out in Article 50 of the EU Lisbon Treaty.
