The Turkish foreign minister has said Ankara may cancel a deal with the European Union on halting the flow of refugees to Europe.
Speaking to Turkish media, Mevlut Chavushoglu threatened to unilaterally scrap the deal, saying the matter is in Ankara’s hands. Chavushoglu also said Turkey is no longer implementing a key part of the deal, under which it must take back migrants who land on Greek islands. The Turkish Foreign Minister slammed the EU for failing to allow Turkish people visa-free travel, which was promised as part of the agreement. The two sides have become engaged in a war of words in recent days. This, after the Netherlands and Germany prevented Turkish ministers from holding rallies to garner support from expatriates for constitutional changes in a referendum slated for April 16.
