1,500 troops join Poseidon 2017 in Romania

More than 1500 troops from seven NATO countries participate in a multinational military drill held in Romania and the international waters of the Black Sea.

Seventeen military ships, a navy helicopter, and two speedboats as well as two jet fighters took part in the Poseidon 2017 multinational drills near the port city of Cons-tanta. The exercises are due to last until March 13th. Romanian and US troops also held their first collaborative training exercise at an airbase in the same city. NATO has been significantly increasing its presence in Eastern Europe after the eruption of the Ukraine crisis in 2014. Moscow has repeatedly denounced the military buildup on its doorsteps. The Kremlin believes the deployments undermine regional stability and can result in a new arms race.
