
It was the 200th candlelit vigil held in the central city of Gimcheon, where the THAAD missile system is to be stationed. The chorus of protests has grown louder since South Korea’s defense ministry announced the arrival of two mobile launchers, as part of the hardware necessary for the installation of the projectiles. Critics believe the system will only increase tensions and the risk of war in the region. Locals say they will continue to protest until THAAD is withdrawn from South Korea.
