Guterres made the comment during his meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on the fringes of the Munich Security Conference. The U-N chief expressed his personal support as well as that of the United Nations for the agreement signed between Tehran and the P-Five-Plus-One group of countries in 20-15. During their meeting, Zarif and Guterres discussed several regional and international issues including the plight of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar. They exchanged views on the crises in Yemen, Syria and Iraq. The top Iranian diplomat called for a more active UN role in resolving such crises and stressed the Islamic Republic’s readiness to work with the world body.
